Breast Cancer and Oncoplasty

Breast Conservation therapy is now an established method of dealing with breast cancer. It consists of two parts- Breast Conservation Surgery (BCS) and radiotherapy. In BCS, breast is saved and reconstruction is done with oncoplastic techniques. To complete the treatment radiotherapy is administered.

Oncoplastic surgery is an approach that combines conserving treatment for breast cancer and plastic surgery techniques. It allows wide excisions and prevents breast deformities by immediate reconstruction of large resection defects. The procedures are mostly useful for resection of 20-40% of the breast – a group of patients normally treated by mastectomy in the past.

Treatments of Breast Cancer and Oncoplasty

our mission

Surgery

Most women with breast cancer have some type of surgery as part of their treatment. There are different kinds of surgical options available in breast cancer like Lumpectomy, axillary lymph node sampling, sentinel lymph node biopsy, breast conservation and mastectomy

our mission

Radiation

Radiation therapy is treatment with high-energy rays (or particles) that destroy cancer cells. Some women with breast cancer will need radiation, in addition to other treatments.

our mission

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy (chemo) uses anti-cancer drugs that may be given intravenously (injected into your vein) or by mouth. The drugs travel through the bloodstream to reach cancer cells in most parts of the body.
